Another Shot

“Another Shot”

I saw you broken without defense

calm madness stole my senses

morality became expendable

our shared thirst unquenchable

you sought solace from a loss you bore

I offered comfort and maybe more

I drank from your lips of whiskey

not realizing it was risky

chemical courage made you more inclined

to let desire cloud your mind

you were heartbroken losing her chain

I was nothing but a shot to ease your pain

we parted ways both unfulfilled

you sought her love to rebuild

I wish I could have drank the pain from your bones

instead I must go on alone.
